Viral Crispy Feta Fried Eggs (Quick + Easy)

If you’ve ever been on TikTok, you know that there are some viral recipes. We all know and love them—green goddess salad, baked feta pasta, dalgona coffee. Recently, these feta fried eggs have been getting some well-deserved attention. Not only are they delicious, they’re so quick and easy to make—all you have to do is brown the feta, crack over your eggs, and wait for them to cook!

Best Toppings For Feta Fried Eggs

I’m the type of person who has to switch up breakfast to keep things interesting, and these tacos make it so easy! They’re super customizable—here are some of my favorites ideas:

  • Pesto. After the feta is browned, I add a dollop of my favorite pesto and let the eggs cook.
  • Cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is controversial, but lately it’s been getting the love it deserves! Not only does it add some extra protein, but it gives the tacos a creamy, cheesy element that I love.
  • Salsa. I know eggs and ketchup is a popular combo, but in my opinion, eggs and salsa is where it’s at.
  • Sliced avocado. If you want, you can even make this recipe into avocado toast instead of tacos.
  • Hot honey. Or regular honey—the sweet/spicy combo pairs perfectly with the eggs.
  • Cheese. Need I say more?
  • Sriracha or chili crisp. For a nice kick to your feta eggs, you can fry them in chili crisp.
  • Hummus. I add hummus to pretty much everything, so this doesn’t come as much of a surprise!

Feta Fried Eggs FAQ

  1. Why did my eggs stick to the pan? Most likely, you used nonstick spray instead of butter or oil. Don’t be shy—the butter/oil will not only flavor the eggs, but it lets them release from the pan.
  2. How to know when the eggs are done cooking? The egg whites should be opaque on top and the yolks set. You can make them as runny as you like, but keep in mind that they’ll set the longer they sit. To test the yolk for doneness, I’ll gently poke it—if the yolk is very wobbly, it will be runny. If its more of a soft and malleable consistency, the yolk will have a jammy texture. If it’s completely firm, it will be like a hard-boiled egg.
  3. Why is it taking my eggs so long to cook? You may be cooking them on too low of a heat. If you want to speed up the cooking process, add a drop or two of water to the hot skillet as the eggs cook to create more steam (which will help the egg whites set).
  4. Can I make different flavored feta fried eggs? Of course! Some popular additions to feta eggs are pesto and chili crisp, which can be added once the feta melts.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 3-4 tablespoons feta
  • ½ to 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 2 small tortillas
  • Toppings of choice

Instructions

  • Over medium heat, melt the olive oil or butter in a nonstick skillet for 1 minute, until warm.
  • Crumble the feta into the pan. Once the cheese melts and begins to brown, crack the eggs over the feta (at this point, you can add pesto or chili crisp for a different flavored fried egg). Sprinkle over a pinch of salt and pepper, then immediately cover the eggs and reduce the heat to low.
  • Cook the eggs until the whites are opaque and the yolks are cooked to your liking. In the meantime, heat the tortillas and prepare any toppings.
  • Once the eggs are done, use a spatula to transfer them to a tortilla or a slice of toast, then add any toppings. Serve immediately.
