What is Stanley Tucci’s Grilled Cheese Recipe?

On a podcast, Stanley Tucci described his ideal desert island meal; a sandwich with mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, and pesto, then grilled to get everything nice and melty.

I’ve seen videos of people recreating this infamous sandwich everywhere, and I knew I had to give it a try. And honestly, it’s such a good recipe—it’s simple, delicious, and is a delicious lunch that takes less than 10 minutes to make!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1-2 tablespoon basil pesto
  • 1 large handful mozzarella cheese fresh or shredded
  • 3 slices prosciutto
  • 2-3 large fresh basil leaves optional
  • Mayonnaise or butter optional

Instructions

  • Spread the pesto onto one slice of bread, then top it with the mozzarella. Layer on the slices of prosciutto and add the basil leaves on top (if using). Add more cheese if desired, then top the sandwich with the other slice of bread.
  • Preheat a pan over medium heat. Spread a layer of mayonnaise onto the top of the sandwich, then place it onto the pan, mayo-side down (alternatively, grill the sandwich in butter). Spread another layer of mayonnaise onto the top of the sandwich, then once the bottom is golden-brown, flip it. Continue to cook a few minutes more, until the bottom of the sandwich is toasted. Transfer the sandwich to a plate and immediately.
