This chocolate sauce recipe is a go-to in my family—we love to use it as a layer in our ice cream cakes! It’s extremely simple; all you really need to do is put all the ingredients in a pot and stir until melted—it’s that easy!

What You’ll Need

As promised, you’ll only need 6 things:

  • Unsalted butter.
  • Semisweet chocolate chips.
  • Powdered sugar.
  • Evaporated milk.
  • Vanilla extract.
  • Salt.

How to Serve Hot Fudge Sauce

  1. With ice cream. The obvious answer, but you can’t go wrong with a classic.
  2. With brownies, pound cake, and cookies. Or really any other dessert you want.
  3. As chocolate fondue. Grab a platter of whatever you want for dipping—strawberries, bananas, pretzels—and go for it!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 12-ounce can evaporated milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine all the ingredients over medium heat and stir until the butter has melted and everything is glossy and smooth. Set aside to cool.
  • Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to a month, or store in the freezer for up to three months. If the sauce becomes too thick once cooled, reheat it in the microwave in 10-20 second intervals or in a pot on the stove, until the desired consistency is reached.
