What You’ll Need

All you need is 8 ingredients, most of which you’ll have on hand in the pantry or fridge.

  • Sour cream.
  • Mayonnaise.
  • Fresh garlic.
  • Salt and pepper.
  • Dried dill.
  • Onion powder.
  • Lemon juice.
  • Buttermilk.

What to Serve Ranch Dressing With

  • A veggie or chip platter. A classic way to serve ranch and the perfect appetizer for any party or sports event.
  • Pizza or fried chicken. If you’ve never tried ranch this way, it might sound weird, but it makes an amazing combo.
  • Salads. Probably the most basic way of using ranch, but it’s common for a reason!

Course: Appetizer, Sauces
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1 heaping cup
Author: Mae Martin

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup good-quality mayonnaise
  • 1-2 minced garlic cloves, or ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • teaspoons dried dill
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon onion powder*
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ to ½ cup buttermilk

Instructions

  • Whisk together the sour cream, mayo, grated garlic, salt, pepper, dill, onion powder, lemon juice, and ¼ cup of the buttermilk. Add more buttermilk for a thinner consistency, and taste the dressing to check for seasoning.
  • Use immediately or store in the refrigerator until ready to use. The dressing will last in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the fridge—remember that it will thicken the longer it sits, and fresh garlic will become stronger in flavor over time.

Notes

*Start with the minimum amount of grated garlic and onion powder, then add more according to your taste preference.
