Cottage Cheese Breakfast Bowl

These cottage cheese bowls are the perfect breakfast—you can make them sweet or savory with your choice of toppings, and they’re both quick and nutritious, with a balance of protein, carbs, and fat to keep you full!

I know cottage cheese is a controversial food item, but it’s recently been making its comeback! One of my favorite ways to use cottage cheese is in these breakfast bowls—they’re high protein, delicious, and infinitely customizable!

Ingredients in Cottage Cheese Bowls

  • Cottage cheese. There are several different kinds of cottage cheese—I prefer Breakstone’s large curd 2% or 4%, but any type will do.
  • Sourdough toast.
  • Toppings of choice. Check out the list below for some ideas!

Cottage Cheese Bowl Toppings

The best part about these bowls is that you can make them either sweet or savory with the toppings you have on hand! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Sliced strawberries, peaches, or berries.
  • Balsamic vinegar.
  • Almond slivers.
  • Peanut butter + cinnamon.
  • Honey.
  • Granola.

  • Boiled eggs.
  • Diced avocado.

  • Pizza sauce + Italian seasoning + pepperoni + shredded cheese.
  • Blistered cherry tomatoes or roasted red bell peppers
  • Grilled vegetables.
  • Grilled chicken + za’atar seasoning.
  • Smoked salmon + everything but the bagel seasoning + cucumber.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup cottage cheese
  • Sourdough toast, to serve

For sweet cottage cheese bowl

  • Sliced strawberries + balsamic vinegar
  • Peanut butter + honey + cinnamon + granola
  • Raspberries + almond slivers + honey

For savory cottage cheese bowl

  • Diced avocado + boiled egg + hummus
  • Blistered cherry tomatoes or roasted red bell peppers + cucumber + grilled chicken
  • Grilled vegetables + za'atar + salsa
  • Smoked salmon + everything but the bagel seasoning
  • ¼ cup pizza sauce + pepperoni + Italian seasoning + garlic powder + shredded mozzarella
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Scoop the cottage cheese to a serving bowl and add your toppings of choice. If you dislike the texture of cottage cheese, you can blend it until smooth, then add the toppings. Serve with toast or crackers and enjoy!
